City of Peabody offers free lots
To encourage new home construction in the community Peabody City Council and Peabody Economic Development have created terms and conditions that will allow qualified applicants to receive city-owned lots at no cost.
Final approval of the qualifying terms and application was passed in June following review by Peabody City Attorney Mark Wilkerson.
Applicants must be willing to build a new house within 18 months of approval date, be willing to sign with a contractor within three months of approval date, and break ground within six months of approval date. All construction and final occupancy must occur within 18 months.
The proposed residential structure must be of new construction, sit on a poured concrete foundation (crawl space or basement), contain a minimum of 1,000 square feet on the main floor, and possess a pitched roof minimum ratio of 5:12.
No mobile or titled homes are eligible for the Peabody Free Lots Program.
Approval of an application is subject to final approval by the city council. Approval will be given within 30 days of the date of application.
Selection criteria include total square footage of the house, appraised value of the house, number of people intended for the household, and owner/occupancy considerations.
Lots available through this program are at 408 Locust (across from Legacy Park), 607 Locust, 203 Sycamore (east of the city shop), and 711 Sycamore (will require Peabody Housing Authority approval).
