City of Peabody: Fall cleanup week starts Monday
Annual fall cleanup week, sponsored by the city of Peabody, will begin Monday according to city treasurer Stephanie Ax.
Stutzman Refuse Service will provide a manned roll-off Dumpster at First and Olive streets from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday evenings and from 8 a.m. to noon on Oct. 21.
The Dumpsters will be manned by Stutzman employees and are for use by city residents only. A driver's license or water bill stub is required for proof of residence.
Curbside pickup will be provided to city residents on Friday only. Participants are urged to remember "the three Bs — Bag, Box, or Bundle." Items taken to the curb should not be thrown loose in a heaping mound requiring refuse collectors to pick and sort through the trash piece by piece. Please secure and compact the trash by placing it in boxes or bags, or by tying into bundles. Non-compliant piles of refuse will not be picked up.
Metal items should be placed at the curb in separate piles as these items are collected by a different truck and crew. Appliances should be set at the curb, clearly accessible without the workers having to wade through other trash. Doors must be removed from refrigerators and freezers.
Call the city office for appliance pickup, especially those which use refrigerant, as they need special tags for disposal.
No demolition materials (concrete, lumber, siding, sheetrock, fencing, etc.) will be picked up or allowed in the Dumpsters. Construction and demolition material should be taken to the transfer station at 320 W. Santa Fe in Marion. Yard waste also will be refused.
