City approves plats for HMB church development
Preliminary and final plats were approved Dec. 5 by Hillsboro City Council during a special meeting for the development of Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church.
Plans were not divulged regarding when construction will begin. The property is located near Prairie Pointe off 190th and Jade roads.
In other business:
— Improvements for Hillsboro Community Medical Center are near completion. The hospital board requested and the city council approved a payment of $38,304 to be paid to Coonrod & Associates Construction Company.
The funds will be drawn from the five mills the city provides to the hospital each year.
— The first pay estimate of $276,973 to Carrothers Construction Company, LLC, was approved for construction of the family aquatic center.
Other invoices related to the swimming pool totaled $9,865 and were approved to Burbach Aquatics, Inc. for services.
— A pay estimate of $305,750 to Utility Contractors was approved for water treatment plant improvements.
A payment of $21,580 to EBH & Associates was paid for engineering of water system improvements.
— An ordinance was approved and documents signed to execute a loan agreement between the city and Kansas Department of Health & Environment for improvements to the city's wastewater treatment system.
— The council changed the city's policy regarding special assessments of undeveloped land in a subdivision.
Special assessments will be attached to lots located within a particular subdivision phase and not to undeveloped land in a subdivision.
— The employee benefit and 1996 water surplus funds were closed out.
Funds of $5,573 from the employee benefit fund were transferred to the general fund, and $7,230 was transferred from the 1996 water surplus fund to the 2004 principal and interest fund.
— City administrator Steve Garrett reported he has worked with EMG Consultants regarding an energy audit. The council reviewed a list of audit recommendations. Several items will be on the agenda at the council's next meeting.
— It was announced there will not be a Hillsboro Planning Commission meeting in December because it lacks a quorum. The next meeting will be Jan. 26.
— The city was contacted by Galaxy Cablevision, cable television provider to Hillsboro, and was informed the company will increase basic monthly cable service from $39.55 to $41.50 plus tax beginning in January.
— Warrants for $130,495 were approved.
— A liquor license ordinance was deferred to a future meeting.
