Citizens raise $500 reward years ago

Peabody Police Chief Jeff Pohlman has announced that a citizen's group has raised $500 to be given as a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person or persons found guilty of stealing or destroying holiday decorations.

Inflatable decorations and lighted display pieces at 702 N. Walnut, 611 N. Sycamore, and 204 N. Sycamore were destroyed and/or stolen during the past couple of weeks.

"We're pretty sure someone knows who did this," said Pohlman. "It's just so senseless. These homeowners go to some expense and effort to provide something people enjoy seeing during the holidays.

"Hopefully a $500 reward will be enough to shake some information loose," he said. "The information will be treated confidentially. No one will know who turned it in."

Anyone with information can phone the police department at 983-2133 and talk to an officer or leave a message.

Pohlman noted that a form also is available on the city's web site, www.peabodyks.com. By clicking on "Police" on the site's home page, the form will become available and can be filled out by anyone with information about the damage and theft to Christmas decorations.

The reward money was donated by individuals and businesses in Peabody who hope the vandals will be caught and be required to make restitution for the damage.
