Christmas home tour is Saturday

"Yule love our historic homes" is the theme for the Peabody Historical Society Christmas home tour from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets and food will be available at the Morgan House, 212 Walnut.

The 1885 home of Debi and Greg Stoner at 305 Maple is the oldest home on the tour. The home and grounds once covered nearly an entire block and was planted with many unusual trees and shrubs. The old barn is still standing at the other end of the block and is now owned by the Duke Eldridge family.

"Carpenter Wilbert" was brought to Peabody in 1908 to build the Lutheran church and went on to build 36 houses in town, many of them in clusters. Darren and Annette Weems and their three children live at 306 Sycamore, just north of Carpenter Wilbert's own home. They are adapting the circa 1920 home to a modern family and have a number of collections to display.

Alan and Diane Yock and their two Airedale terriers live across the street from the Weems family at 305 Sycamore. Raised garden beds, lovely trees and shrubs suggest a home of avid gardeners and cooks. The new picket fence offers plenty of play area for Auggie and Gus, their two pampered pooches.

Ross Baker is another avid cook and antique collector. He will have holiday tables ready to entertain family and friends, plus many traditional ornaments. His granddaughter, sarah Robinson, a recent University of Kansas graduate, will assist him. Peggy Unruh will be another helper, courtesy of Legacy Park's community involvement project.
