Children participate in reading program
Twenty-five children laughed it up at this year's summer reading program during the month of July. A few of the activities the children enjoyed included corny treats and "fishing" for their snacks, listening to stories about doughnuts and three little wolves, creating a laugh o'meter, fashioning their own set of dog ears, catching doughnuts, and jamming jellybeans. If this sounds like silly fun, it was.
Kindergarten through second graders who completed the reading goal of reading at least 15 books throughout July were Megan Bielefeld, James Gillet, Nicholas Preheim, and Braxton Kyle. Third through sixth graders who read at least six hours to complete the reading goal were Jessica Sayers, Seth Topham, Zachary Preheim, Brody Kyle, Megan Sayers, Benson Gillet, Kaitlyn Preheim, and Aaron Topham.
Peabody Kiwanis club supported the program this year. Their support helps to purchase books and incentive prizes, as well as supplies for crafts and activities. Peabody Elementary School PTO and the Peabody Township Library sponsored musician Thad Beach to help "Laugh It Up" at the library. Mark and Ginger Whitney of Peabody Hardware and Lumber sponsored the magic and comedy act, Dan Dan the Magic Man, which concluded the events.
Anyone interested in finding out more about the program or in helping with future programs, ask about it at the library. Hours are Monday through Friday, 2-5 p.m.; Thursday 2-7 p.m.; and Saturday 9 a.m.-noon. The phone number is 983-2502.
