Children encouraged to participate in summer reading program at PBES

Peabody summer reading program, "Paws, Claws, Scales, and Tales" will ensure a furry, feathery, leathery, literature adventure for children up to sixth grade.

Reading records will be sent home with elementary students the last week of school. After reading a book, the student should enter the title in the reading record and bring it to Peabody Township Library to receive an animal figure.

Children also may attend Tuesday story hour from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. June 13, 20, 27, and July 11. During each session, participants will listen to stories about pets, do simple crafts and activities, have a snack, and meet various critters.

Three special events will be held throughout the summer. Critter Showcase, alongside the Farmers' Market at Santa Fe Park will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. June 17. There will be a selection of animals to visit, prize registrations, stories, and books for sale.

The second event, Brother John's Dog Days, will be held at 10 a.m., prior to the Fourth of July dog show at Peabody City Park. Brother John is a motivational storyteller who will share fun and humorous canine adventures through story and song.

The last event, Paws to Share, is scheduled from 10:30 to 11 a.m. July 5 at Legacy Park. Children and residents of Legacy Park will visit with animals, hear a story, and participate in a skit for the residents.
