Charles Haupt

Charles G. Haupt, 95, former Peabody optician, died March 5, 2003, at Cedars Health Care Center in McPherson.

He was born Jan. 17, 1908, near Peabody, the son of the late George F. and Della (Freeman) Haupt.

He also was former owner of Visions, Inc., at Wichita.

He was a former member of East Heights United Methodist Church, Barbadeaux Breakfast Club, and Commoners Club; and Crestview Country Club, all of Wichita; American Association of Independent Optometric Wholesalers; Mid-West Optical Wholesalers; Guild Opticians; and Kansas Opticians Association.

He served for years with Voluntary Optometric Services for Humanity, traveling to Honduras, Guatemala, Equator, and Bolivia.

He currently was a member of McPherson Lions Club; a life member of Bester G. Brown Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and Midian Shrine at Wichita.

After graduating from Peabody High School he attended the University of Kansas two years.

On June 18, 1933, he was married to Ruth Adeline Brooks at Anthony. She died July 24, 1994.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Wall (Mrs. Gary) Crosby of Florissant, Colo.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Following cremation, memorial services were held Sunday afternoon at the First United Methodist Church, McPherson.

Memorial funds have been designated in his name with Kansas Lions Sight Foundation and Macular Degeneration Research.
