Burns to receive two awards from state PRIDE program

Burns will receive two commendations from the Kansas PRIDE program Nov. 6 during PRIDE Day 2004 at the Holiday Inn in Salina.

The PRIDE Day conference will conclude with a banquet and awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m.

Burns will receive a community of excellence award and a PRIDE STAR award.

The Community of Excellence designation is the highest level of recognition for communities enrolled in the PRIDE program. Burns is one of 19 communities that will receive the award for implementing a comprehensive approach to community and economic development during the past year.

The PRIDE STAR award recognizes an outstanding project that meets an identified need, enhances the quality of life, and furthers the community development process. Burns will receive the award for its Corner Park project.

Sixty-four Kansas communities currently participate in the PRIDE program, which addresses issues of planning, community services, and community enrichment with citizen-initiated, grass root plans of action.
