Burns receives PRIDE awards
Burns was among 27 Kansas communities to receive awards from the PRIDE program, sponsored by Kansas State University Research and Extension.
Awards were presented Saturday in Salina during the annual PRIDE Day community development workshop and celebration.
Burns was among 19 communities to receive a 2004 Kansas PRIDE Community of Excellence Award. Burns also was among 17 communities to earn a PRIDE Star Award.
The Community of Excellence Award is selected after a site visit by a team of community development professionals who evaluate how the community identifies local needs and involves people in working together to resolve those needs. The award includes a trophy and $500 to help fund future projects.
The PRIDE Star Award includes a trophy and $300 to fund future community improvements. The award recognizes the completion of a project that had significant impact for community residents.
Burns received the PRIDE Star Award for community development success in replacing a dilapidated downtown building with a Main Street corner park.
