Burns earns PRIDE awards
Burns earned one of 15 "STAR" awards, presented by the Kansas PRIDE Program, at a ceremony Saturday in Great Bend.
The town of 271 earned the award for its new community center, built with the help of a KAN-STEP grant.
Burns and nine other of the 15 "STAR" award-winning communities also earned "Community of Excellence" awards that honor any comprehensive community development and improvement.
To earn a "STAR" award, communities are invited to submit a project report, which is evaluated by a team of community development professionals.
To earn a "Community of Excellence" award, PRIDE communities host a visiting team of community development professionals from Kansas and neighboring states who evaluate their efforts, according to Beverly Wilhelm, Kansas Department of Commerce co-administrator for the PRIDE program.
