Burns council members sworn in

Burns City Council met April 10 and swore in new members Judi Steward, Pat Nystrom, and Brent Baker.

Mark Brunhoeber was elected president of the council.

Outgoing council members are Elmer Welch and Mark Steward.

In other business:

— A former council member had asked about money he thought was given to the city when a production company filmed movie scenes in Burns several years ago. Research was conducted and no money was noted.

— The city's generator was picked up and located on the property of William Koehn, the city's street sub-contractor. The portable generator will be used during disasters when electricity is off in the city.

— The council approved the purchase of a DVD recording machine, insurance on the city's generator, a sewer machine, mowing bid, and appropriation.

— Water superintendent Earl Glenn reported he sprayed the baseball diamond and installed hooks at the gazebo for a banner.

— City clerk Carol Callahan reported she had talked with the city attorney regarding a city-owned dog pen to be used when stray dogs are picked up. The attorney told her the city would have to obtain a state license for the pen.

— A dilapidated property was discussed and decision tabled until the next meeting.

— Minutes from the meetings will be published in the Peabody Gazette-Bulletin on a regular basis and the council agreed to purchase a subscription to the newspaper.

— Items of discussion and possible agenda for the next council meeting are cage at water tower, nuisance properties, stove hood at Burns Community Center, and animal traps.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. May 8 in the Burns City Building.
