Burns banker named to top position of volunteer group
Kansas Department of Commerce has announced the appointment of Burns banker Steve Waite as Commanding General of the Kansas Cavalry.
The appointment was made June 5 by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius at the Kansas Cavalry Encampment in Wichita.
The group includes about 120 volunteer business leaders, educators, and economic development professionals who work together to promote Kansas.
Waite has been the Regional Commander of the Kansas Cavalry since 1989 and won the Silver Stirrup Award in 1993.
He is past president of the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce, the Main Street Board of Directors, and the Butler County Economic Development Board.
He has been president of the Community National Bank at El Dorado and Burns since 1998.
Waite has been instrumental in the recent boost to economic development in the Burns community.
