Budget is topic of special city meeting
Peabody City Council met Monday night to begin its budget review meetings in anticipation of preparing the 2005 budget.
City administrator Jeff Benbrook said revenue adjustments will be minimal, but budgeted expenses need to be brought in line with actual expenses.
"In the past we have budgeted too much for expenses," Benbrook said. "That gives city departments a false sense of prosperity when they don't actually spend the amount budgeted. We need to bring that amount more in line with what the actual spending is."
The next special meeting to work on budget will be at 7 p.m. July 6 in the city building.
The council also confirmed it will hold a retreat at 6:30 p.m. July 19 at Burns Community Building.
The next regularly scheduled meeting is at 7 p.m. Monday at the city building.
