Brazil introduced board of directors

By JOANNA BRAZIL

PMSA Director

Main Street projects would not happen were it not for the direction and vision of the Peabody Main Street Association board of directors. I would like to recognize and thank this group for their leadership and hard work.

Mary Avery, PMSA president, has served on the board for three years. Her leadership is well received and appreciated, and continues to yield many successes and a great deal of growth for PMSA. Avery works in the downtown bookstore and gift shop, Jackrabbit Hollow, and also is a radiological technologist for Via Christi Hospital.

Vice president Steve Hamous has worked with PMSA off and on since its inception in the early '90s. He is extremely knowledgeable in historic preservation, as he and his wife, Janet, restored the Phoenix Dry Goods building after a tragic fire nearly destroyed it. Hamous is employed by the Wichita School District as a junior high teacher.

Secretary-treasurer Glenda Mackey has served on the PMSA for three years. She dedicates many hours of her time every month to recording and maintaining the organization's financial reports and minutes, and assists with many of the PMSA projects. Mackey is employed at the Peabody Elementary School.

Sharon Oursler, owner of Sharon's Korner Kitchen in downtown Peabody and Sharon's Rolling Kitchen catering service, has served on the board for a number of years. She has helped with many of the projects, and her experience and business perspective are invaluable to the group.

Beth Eldridge has served on the board for three years. She recently became a new representative for Country Bunny Bed and Bath products, and has been renovating a downtown building with her husband, Duke. Beth's creativity finds the fabulous presenters for the "How Does YOUR Garden Grow?" women's series, and her generosity and fun ideas are priceless.

Peggy Radisewitz-Weir joined the board about a year ago, and she has been rolling with projects ever since. Her enthusiasm and sense of humor keep the group in great spirits as they tackle projects and activities. She is an amazing multi-tasker who juggles many volunteer activities with her studies in respiratory care.

Jeanne Strotkamp, Main Street's newest board member, dove right into projects with creativity and vision. She is the office manager at her husband, Audie Strotkamp's, law office in downtown Peabody. Her leadership and energy is a wonderful addition to PMSA.

All board members have been generous to PMSA in a number of ways. They all believe in Peabody and demonstrate their commitment to the community with their time and energy. If you are interested in joining the organization and/or assisting with any of the PMSA projects and/or committees, please contact me at (620) 983-2174 or email pmsa@peabodyks.com. You also may contact any members of the board.
