BPA members qualify for national conference

Several members of Business Professionals of America (BPA) at Peabody-Burns High School will attend the national leadership conference in Cincinnati, Ohio, after competing in the state leadership conference in Wichita.

Twenty-two PBHS students competed in the state conference. Thirty schools and 402 students participated from across the state.

Leading the PBHS chapter was senior Michael Unruh who took first place in medical office procedures and received two top 10 placements in administrative support and parliamentary procedure. He also placed fifth in administrative support team with team members Jade Garcia, Tiana McGee, and Megan Cox.

The team of Kurt Phillips, Brandon Crabtree, Jonathan Foth, and Tyler Litton received third place in web page design. Their team is first alternate for nationals in web page design team. (Their web site can be viewed by accessing the Peabody-High School web site and opening the BPA activity page).

Michael Unruh and Rachel Unruh received the Statesman Torch Award, a prestigious national award. They will compete at the national level for the Ambassador Torch Award.

Fundamental accounting, Tiana McGee, 13th place.

Keyboarding production, Blythe Weir, ninth; Andrew Topham, 20th; Derrick Simmons, 28th; and Jason Unruh, 29th.

Advanced word processing, Rachel Womack, 10th.

Desktop publishing, Kurt Phillips, 12th; Tyler Litton, 19th; and Kate Topham, 21st.

Basic office systems, Jade Garcia, 15th; Rachel Womack, 21st, and Stephanie Vetter, 25th.

Medical office systems, Michael Unruh, first; Elizabeth Brown, fifth; Jennifer Schmeling, eighth.

Legal office systems, Megan Cox, fifth.

Administrative support team, Michael Unruh, Jade Garcia, Tiana McGee, and Megan Cox, fifth; and Jason Unruh, Andrew Topham, and Jennifer Schmeling, 14th.

C++ programming, Brandon Crabtree, fifth; and Nick Whitney, ninth.
