Bo Gaines

Bo Dee Gaines, 22, died Jan. 25, 2004, in Lindsborg.

Born March 7, 1981, at Newton, he was the son of Herbert and Melinda (Gardner) Gaines.

He grew up in Peabody and graduated from Peabody Middle School. He moved with his family to the Cassoday area and attended El Dorado High School where he was a graduate with the class of 1999.

He was a member of the baseball, basketball, and football teams, E-Club, Spanish Club, Students Against Drunk Driving, Kansas Association of Youth, and the pep band. Academically he was on the principal's honor roll and the red and black honor roll.

After graduation he attended Bethany College at Lindsborg, on a football and baseball scholarship. He participated for four years in the baseball program. His team's achievements included the baseball conference champions, conference tournament champions, and the Region 4 runner-up. He served as captain of the baseball team during his senior year. He also served as vice president and treasurer of the Law and Order Club.

During summer months he worked for Grunder Hay Hauling as a farmer's assistant, the City of El Dorado, Lasting Interiors, and Mears Fertilizer. In his spare time he enjoyed golf and baseball.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald James "R.J." Gaines, and his grandmother, Verla Gardner.

Survivors include his parents, Herbert and Melinda Gaines of Cassoday; grandmother, Maude Gaines of Peabody; and several aunts and uncles, Sally and Jim Abel and Vicki and Richard Gantz, all of Perry; Ronnie and Patti Gaines of Burns; Jean Gaines of Holton; and Shelley Harper of Inman.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, El Dorado.

Burial will follow at Summit United Methodist Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established as the Bo Gaines Baseball Scholarship with Bethany College.
