Goessel High School volleyball team started off the Tescott tournament on the right foot Saturday, going undefeated in pool play.
The Bluebirds defeated Bennington (25-17, 25-18), Tescott (25-13, 25-17), and Wilson (25-16, 25-20).
The three victories earned them a number one seed and a match-up with Osborne.
GHS took game one, 25-17, but fell apart in game two, losing 25-13.
Regrouping for game three worked well, as the Bluebirds dominated 25-15. The victory moved Goessel into the championship match against Ell-Saline.
GHS had to overcome an injury to a front line player, but again regrouped and came away with a three-game victory, 25-17, 23-25, 25-13.
"The girls showed a lot of character and heart to play through that adversity," head coach Crysta Guhr said.
The Bluebirds had several players serve above 90 percent. Kory Hiebert was 35-38, Katie Flaming 53-57 (13 aces), and Allison Banman finished 35-38.
Hiebert led in kills with 53, Courtney Berkholz added 20, and Sarah Unruh recorded 13 kills.
Berkholz led the team in digs with 25, and Banman was the team-leader in assists with 80.

GHS played host to Moundridge and Ell-Saline Sept. 13. It knocked off Ell-Saline 25-19, 25-20, but fell to Moundridge, 25-13, 25-14.
"I thought we played scrappier defense than in previous night," Guhr said.
The Bluebirds are now 14-3 and 3-1 in the Heart of America League.
Goessel played at Berean this past Tuesday, and will be on the road Tuesday to face Little River for another league match.
