Bluebirds qualify for state tournament
Goessel High School golf team finished second Monday at the Pretty Prairie regional to earn a trip to the 1A state tournament in Winfield.
Zach Frey led the team with a fifth-place finish after a round of 84. Nate Ensz also took home a medal, finishing seventh with a round of 92.
Derek Brown (94), Cameron Voth (102), Alex Drake (102), and Jake Schrag (104) rounded out the Bluebird field.
The team will compete with an early morning tee time Monday at Quail Ridge Golf Course.
HOA tourney
Goessel competed May 8 in the Heart of America League tournament and took home a second-place plaque.
The Bluebirds finished behind Hutch Trinity and in front of five other schools.
Frey won the meet with an 80, Drake was eighth with an 87, and Ensz finished 10th with an 89.
Schrag shot an 89 but lost on a tie-break with Ensz.
Brown completed the 18 holes with a 101, and Voth finished at 107.
