Bloodmobile is Sept. 6

The Progressive Mothers Club in Peabody is sponsoring the Red Cross Bloodmobile from 2 to 6 p.m. Sept. 9 at Peabody United Methodist Church.

Lynn Berns, chairman, says donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and in general good health.

"Also," added Berns, "most medications do not prevent people from donating. More than 2,500 pints of blood are needed every week to supply the needs of hospital patients in the Central Plains Region. Donors really do make a difference when they donate to the blood drive here in Peabody."

Donors are encouraged to make an appointment to give blood. They may call the Red Cross at 1-800-448-3543 or Berns at 983-2328.

"As always, a delicious meal will be served," said Berns. "Special pens will be given to donors this time in remembrance of 9-11."

Berns added that all types of blood are needed, especially O-positive and O-negative. O-positive is the most common type. O-negative is the universal blood type.

"Peabody always responds well to the call for blood donations," said Berns. "We hope this year will be better than ever."
