Block wins neighborhood contest

The Peabody Economic Development Council is pleased to present the first winners of the Neighborhood Beautification Contest. Congratulations to the 500 block of Walnut for receiving the most votes!

This contest is difficult to judge, but we have developed a system that is as objective as possible. We have chosen five judges who know this city well. They have been given the list of criteria, and know that every property on the block must meet the list of criteria. Each judge, who remains anonymous even to each other, turns in his/her top three votes for blocks that meet all the criteria. The votes are tallied and the block with the most votes wins, in this case the 500 block of Walnut.

Winners will be served a barbecue dinner at 6:30 p.m. Friday by the Peabody Economic Development Council. Dinner is provided by Peabody State Bank, Peabody Hardware, Peabody Market, Peabody Main Street, and the City of Peabody.

Your block has three additional chances to win the contest. The next time blocks will be judged is from July 9-11, with the next winning barbecue scheduled for July 22.
