Block beautification program begins
It is that time of year again for the Neighborhood Block Beautification contest.
Three anonymous judges have been driving around the community and ranking each neighborhood on the following criteria.
— Grass mowed, trimmed, clean and neat appearance to the property.
— Bushes, trees trimmed.
— No appliances, junk, debris on the property.
— Clean curbs and gutters.
— No nuisance conditions on the property.
— OR — most improved in all of the above categories.
There has been one round of judging already but neighborhoods still are eligible to win. The last round of judging will be Aug. 29-31.
This year there will be one large block appreciation barbecue at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 16 for the first, second, and third place winning blocks. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served.
First place will receive $25 in Peabody Bucks per household and an invitation to the block appreciation barbecue. Second place will receive $10 in Peabody Bucks per household and an invitation to barbecue. Third place will receive an invitation to the barbecue.
The event is sponsored in part by Peabody Economic Development committee, The City of Peabody, Peabody State Bank, Legacy Park, Sharon's Korner Kitchen, Peabody Market, Peabody Sausage House, and Peabody Main Street Association.
