Bicycle safety assembly will emphasize rules of the road
Peabody police chief Bruce Burke has arranged for a bicycle safety assembly at Peabody-Burns Elementary School at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 28. Burke and his officers have had growing concerns about the lack of attention paid by young bike riders on the streets of the community.
The students will learn that rules which apply to motor vehicles also apply to youngsters on bicycles.
"We have had a number of close calls in the past few months," said Burke. "Somehow, kids are not being taught that they need to be watchful about the cars they are sharing the streets with."
The assembly will be conducted by the Peabody police department.
On Sept. 11 a juvenile was arrested for disorderly conduct and criminal threat. The case has been turned over to the county attorney for possible prosecution.
A Peabody adult was arrested for failure to appear on a warrant issued in Peabody municipal court.
Police took a report of a lost cell phone at Peabody city park during the weekend.
