Benefit golf tournament a success
The ninth annual George Holm Golf Tournament was held Jan. 1 at Lakeside Country Club in Peabody.
Organizers report that 38 golfers participated. The weather was more cooperative than in most years with temperatures in the low 40s, sunny skies, and light winds.
Larry Watts added a bit of excitement to the tournament by racking up a hole in one on #5, a 179-yard Par 3 hole. Given his reputation as an imaginative story teller, his fellow golfers disbelieved his claim at first. But it was discovered that he had the required witnesses and that the event had indeed happened. (This event was reported on the front page of the Peabody Gazette-Bulletin last week in the Scoreboard column.)
A raffle and chili feed were held at the Peabody American Legion hall following the golf tournament, and were enjoyed by many of George Holm's family and friends.
The tournament raised $750 to be added to the George Holm Scholarship Fund.
