Band, choir rate high at music festival
Peabody-Burns Junior High band and choir attended the Heart of America League Music Festival March 5 in Pretty Prairie and received many good ratings.
The band received a 2+ rating and the choir received a I- rating. Each presented two selections.
Instrumental soloists receiving I ratings were: Kali Alstrom, clarinet; Megan Cox, trumpet; Lindsay Wiebe, flute; Traci Windsor, trumpet; Jacob Wolf, trumpet; and Anna Zappone, flute. Those receiving I- were Ashley Elliott, alto saxophone; Chris Milstead, flute; and Krista Stafford, clarinet.
Vocal soloist Laura Hoffman received a I rating. Vocalists receiving I- ratings were Christina Newfield, Andrew Topham, and Anna Zappone. Jade Garcia received a II-.
Five instrumental ensembles participated. I ratings went to the brass ensemble (Megan Cox, Ben Jantzen, Andrew Topham, Jason Unruh, Jarred Weems, Oliver Whitney, Traci Windsor, and Jacob Wolf) and the trumpet ensemble (Megan Cox, Andrew Topham, Traci Windsor, and Jacob Wolf). Receiving I- ratings were the trumpet ensemble (Megan Cox, Andrew Topham, Traci Windsor, and Jacob Wolf); the clarinet ensemble (Kali Alstrom, Alyssa Carter, Kaela Gillet, Jessi Hilliard, Ruth McLeod, and Krista Stafford); and the saxophone trio (Ashley Elliott, Jesse Riggs, and Derrick Simmonds). The flute trio (Heidi Knust, Lindsay Wiebe, and Anna Zappone) received a II+.
Three vocal ensembles performed at the festival. The girls ensemble (Megan Cox, Jade Garcia, Laura Hoffmann, Christina Newfield, Sarah Peugh, Stephanie Vetter, Rachel Womack, and Anna Zappone) and the boys ensemble (Derrick Simmonds, Andrew Topham, Jason Unruh, Oliver Whitney) received I- ratings. The mixed ensemble (Megan Cox, Jade Garcia, Laura Hoffmann, Christina Newfield, Jason Unruh, and Oliver Whitney) received a II.
