Arthur Madsen

Arthur L. Madsen, 71, died Nov. 3, 2004, at Abilene Memorial Hospital.

Born June 25, 1933, near Peabody, he was the son of Niels and Mary (Wilber) Madsen.

He attended Peabody schools and graduated from Peabody High School in 1951. He also was a graduate of Wichita State University in 1956.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He returned to Wichita State University where he received a master's degree in music education. He taught at Oklahoma City University, Labette County High School, Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas.

On May 8, 1977, he married Bonnie Sheaffer and the couple lived in Abilene.

He worked for Green Ford, Ronald Rice Motors, Racy Motors, and Holm Automotive, and was office manager at Bennett Autoplex in Salina for 15 years.

He was a member of First Christian Church, Abilene.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Martha Richmond; and five brothers, Walter, Stanley, Lawrence, Robert, and Earl Madsen.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of Abilene; a daughter, Lonnie Hampe of Buffalo, Wyo.; a brother, Willard Madsen of Lakeland, Fla.; two sisters, Bernie Hess and Eddie Hiebert of Abilene; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at First Christian Church, Abilene, with Virgil Eubanks officiating.

Burial was in Abilene Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
