Annual tournament nets 80 pounds of catfish years ago
Twenty-three teams participated Saturday in the third annual Craig White Fishing Tournament at Peabody Country Club and reeled in nearly 80 pounds of catfish.
The largest flathead weighed 18 pounds and was caught by the first-place team of Allen Hood of Newton and Shawn Black of Florence. Their total weigh-in was 21.96 pounds.
The second-place team of Calvin Garoutte of Peabody and Matt Litton of Whitewater brought in seven fish for a total of 14.9 pounds — the most fish of the day.
Roy Harr of El Dorado and Tonny Delvecchio of Peabody placed third with five fish totaling 11.55 pounds.
Steve Rose and Brett O'Dell of Peabody caught the second largest catfish, weighing in at 11 pounds.
Best of Show was awarded to Temperence Scott and Josie Holm of Peabody for being the first all-girl team in the history of the tournament. They also claimed the smallest fish, which weighed in at .31 pound.
Registration was at Peabody Country Club. Because of the rain, weigh-in was moved to the American Legion.
Drawings for prizes from local sponsors and friends were held after the presentation of awards.
The event is sponsored by Peabody Sons of American Legion. Funds from the tournament are used to help people in the community at times of crisis. Three donations went out last week to the communities of communities of Canton, Marion, and Peabody.
