Annual Skinner reunion is held at Manhattan
The 57th annual Skinner reunion was held Saturday and Sunday at Manhattan. Attending were 31 people, most of whom were descendants of William and Margaret Skinner, who moved from Iowa to Peabody in a covered wagon in 1896, and James and Amanda Skinner, who moved from Iowa to LaHarpe the same year.
For most of its existence the reunion has been held in Peabody.
Hosts this year were Judy and Jim Ahrens, Jean Hill, and Virginia Bigbee, all of Manhattan.
Reunion events included a barbecue cookout at the Ahrens home, golf tournament at the Colbert Hills golf course, and a dinner on Sunday at Manhattan s CiCo Park. Prizes were awarded to the top three golfers — Scott Nelson of Lindsborg, Paul Wiseman of Leawood, and Chris Young, Peabody.
Those attending included Frances Skinner, Dr. Virginia Skinner, and Chris, Jennifer, Mackenzie, and Bryant Young, Peabody; Donna Nelson and Scott, Michelle, and Sophie Nelson, Lindsborg; Virginia Bigbee, Jean Hill, and Jim and Judy Ahrens, Manhattan; Don Skinner, Connie Strand, and Paul Wiseman, Leawood; Ilene Chisholm and Pauline and Wray Skinner, Wichita; John and Marsha Cain, Hays; Joy and Joel Carlson, Shawnee; Bete Skinner, Great Bend; Nancy and Dennis Bachman and William Arasmith, Topeka.
Out of state attendees included Becky Weber of Grand Island, Neb., and Gordon and Wilburta Muchmore of Raytown, Mo. A card was signed for Sybil Hill of Liberty, Mo.
The reunion in 2004 again will be held in Peabody.
