Annabelle Gaffney

Annabelle Laura Gaffney, 76, died Jan. 22, 2004, at St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

Born Nov. 26, 1927, near Marion, she was the daughter of Walter and Minnie (Remmers) Ruby.

She was a longtime resident of Florence and is remembered for her love of family and friends. Her hobbies included playing cards and games. She was an avid reader, loved to cook, and was a baseball and basketball fan.

On Dec. 5, 1946, she married Mathew C. Gaffney at Wichita.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, and a son, James.

Survivors include four sons, David Gaffney of Florence, Darrel Gaffney of Keller, Texas, Mathew "Butch" Gaffney Jr. of Wichita, and Christopher Gaffney of El Dorado; four daughters, Deloris Beard of Andover, Sharon Bueger of Newton, Arlene Hysom of El Dorado, and Darlene Barrett of Wichita; two brothers, Arthur Ruby of Billings, Mont., and Ralph Ruby of Leavenworth; three sisters, Catherine Hein of Marion, Margaret Hein of Hillsboro, and Lucille Weyer of Leavenworth; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Zeiner Funeral Home, Florence, with the Rev. Steve Hysom officiating.

Music was provided by Dennis Stricklin, who sang "Amazing Grace" and "In the Garden." Lucille Wyss was organist.

Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence.

A memorial fund was established in the name of Christopher Gaffney.
