And now, how to dump it right

There's a great deal of confusion about broadband deregulation in Kansas. A bill has been introduced in the Kansas Legislature which caused an uproar and a great deal of misrepresentation.

Those who object to broadband deregulation would have you believe that SBC would become a monopoly bringing poorer service and higher rates.

Small companies say they can't compete with SBC.

They don't know, because SBC is prohibited with competing in the broadband market today.

SBC is accused of being a big bad monopoly, but anyone who has used the telephone during the past decade or so realizes it isn't true. In fact, SBC was a monopoly years ago but more recently has been faced with stiff competition — and service is improved. So are rates.

It's logical to conclude that allowing SBC to compete in the broadband market would bring service to places like Marion County (where it is limited today) and cause rates to be more reasonable.

Ask your legislator to approve of deregulating the broadband market. Let SBC compete with the others. Let them provide service to the rural area where broadband is limited to non-existent today.
