Ammeter: LaVonne tells of trip to Virginia

Well, I was gone all last week, so I'll bore you with my trip.

My sister Carolyn Holm of Wichita came Saturday evening and spent the night. We left early Sunday morning for Agency, Mo., to the home of George and Rose Watts, Anna and Mathew. Katie of Kansas City also was there. We attended the Bible school program at George's church Sunday evening.

George took Carolyn, Rose, and LaVonne to the airport in Kansas City Monday morning and we flew to Atlanta, Ga., and then changed planes and flew to Newport News, Va. Atlanta is a huge airport for a country girl. Mary Sue picked us up and we went to Mike and Mary Sue's home in Williamsburg, Va. We stayed until Friday morning, then flew home.

While there we went to Virginia Beach, waded in the Atlantic Ocean and picked up sea shells, and saw the Cape Henry Lighthouse built in 1791, at the junction of the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Awesome!

We spent a little time in old Williamsburg and ate lunch at Duck Run on the ocean. I do not like seafood, but I ate seafood! We saw the movie "Emma and Alex," did some shopping, walked along the James River, and saw the island where the people landed when they settled in Jamestown.

The magnolia trees, hydrangeas, and crepe myrtle were beautiful and there's trees and trees and more trees.

We pieced a quilt and did lots of visiting. We flew home Friday. It was a great four days! I hope I didn't bore you too much, but I had a wonderful time.

Kerrie, Natalie, Taryn, Kenton, and Tiana Wiebe visited LaVonne Friday evening.

Don Gillet visited LaVonne Saturday morning and Stan Ammeter was an afternoon visitor.

Maude Gaines and LaVonne attended church Sunday at Whitewater Center and ate lunch there. It was such good fellowship and food. Later in the afternoon, they visited Elsie Tittle in Florence.

Stan Ammeter was a supper guest of his mom on Sunday. He held down the fort while I was gone.

Kerrie and Dan Wiebe and family visited LaVonne Saturday evening. The children reported on the turtle races they had entered in Newton. Their turtle was lazy and wouldn't even move.

I got a telephone call Sunday evening telling me the Rev. Carol Gilbert, who was our minister for 17 years at Summit Church, had had a stroke June 13. His daughter-in-law Janet Gilbert reported he is getting along OK, but will have a long recovery. He and Adah will now be residents of Friendly Acres. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

We extend our prayers and sympathy to the family of Larry Windsor.

Hope you all have a great week and a great Fourth of July!
