AJHA group to tour Peabody Sunday

American Journalism Historians Association will be in Peabody Sunday to tour the print museum, eat at the Morgan House, and view the historic downtown.

The group is made up of journalists from all over the country who have a special passion for the history of American newspapers. They will be attending the 25th annual convention in Wichita from Oct. 11 to 14.

Approximately two dozen of the AJHA members will join the "first-ever" post convention tour across the Flint Hills with stops in Peabody and Emporia. At Emporia the group will visit the offices of the famed Emporia Gazette and tour the historic home of its editor William Allen White.

Arrangements for the tour were made by Les Anderson, journalism professor at Wichita State University.

Refuse collection changed this week

Due to Columbus Day falling on Monday this week, Stutzman Refuse Service will collect trash at Peabody Saturday morning instead of Friday morning.

Whenever a holiday interrupts the trash pickup schedule, all trash pickup will be one day late for the balance of that week.

Date of zoning meeting changes

Florence Economic Development chairman Sarah Cope has announced that a town meeting to explain new zoning regulations will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 2 instead of Oct. 27 as previously announced. The meeting will be held at the city building.

Cope said some of the people planning to present information would not be able to be at the meeting.

The city has called the town meeting to give residents opportunity to ask questions and offer comments on new zoning regulations. Copies of the regulations are available for citizens to look over at the city building.
