Adolf Schmidt
Adolf D. Schmidt, 88, Newton, died at his home on Sept. 28, 2002.
Born Feb. 8, 1914, at Goessel, he was the son of Peter and Agnes (Duerksen) Schmidt.
He married Ruth Schmidt Aug. 28, 1938 at Hillsboro. She died June 21, 1985.
He married Ann Schmidt Aug. 15, 1990, at Goessel. She survives.
He was a member of First Mennonite Church, Burns, the last surviving founder of that congregation.
After attending Green Valley School, he farmed many years in the Florence, Peabody, Burns community. He moved to Newton in 1995.
Taking bus trips of the United States and visiting the senior center were things he enjoyed doing in later years.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Carol Kay Beaushaw also of Newton; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday afternoon with Pastor Kevin Goertzen of Goessel Mennonite Church officiating. Burial was at Burns First Mennonite Church.
Memorial funds have been established with the church at Burns and Hospice of Kansas.
