Accidents

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Ben S. Leppke, 17, 1917 140th, Marion, was northbound on Sunflower Road near 150th and passing another vehicle at 5:20 p.m. May 24 when the vehicle met oncoming traffic and swerved to avoid vehicles. Leppke was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus, owned by Lyle Leppke, same address, when it entered a west ditch and hit a sign. Undersheriff Randal Brazil reported there was more than $1,000 in damages and there were no injuries.

Deann J. Long, 60, 105 N. Wilson, Hillsboro, was backing from a driveway at her residence at 5:20 p.m. May 25 and struck a westbound vehicle driven by Tamara D. Sanders, 33, 106 N. Wilson, Hillsboro. Long was driving a 2006 Chrysler and Sanders was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am, reported Hillsboro Police Officer Brad Richards. Dianne K. Sanders, 13, same address, was a passenger in the Sanders vehicle. No one was injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages.

Robert Max Parks, 81, 904 S. Kansas Ave., Newton, was driving a 1988 Lincoln Town Car eastbound on 60th Road near Mustang at 8:46 p.m. May 25 when it went off the road and hit a culvert and sign post. Peabody EMT responded and LifeTeam transported the driver to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, reported deputy Duane McCarty.

Amy Jo Hulsey, 30, 314 S. Ash, Hillsboro, was westbound on U.S.-56 near Chisholm Trail Road in a 1991 Buick Regal at 8:50 p.m. May 25 when a deer came from a south ditch and was struck by the vehicle. The vehicle is owned by Jack E. Mizell, Galva. Deputy McCarty reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

Tracy S. Isaac, 32, 316 S. Date, Hillsboro, was northbound on K-15 at 10:20 p.m. May 26 when a deer entered the roadway from an east ditch and was struck by the vehicle, a 1998 Ford Windstar Van, registered to Lonnie W. Isaac, same address. Passengers in the van were Tessa S. Isaac, 7, and Rhain Isaac, 3. There were no injuries and damages of more than $1,000 were reported by undersheriff Brazil.

A dog drowned at 10 p.m. May 27 when Travis Koons, 17, McPherson, backed a 1980 Datsun 280ZX down a boat ramp at a high rate of speed, was unable to stop, and submerged the vehicle. The incident occurred at Cottonwood Point, Marion Reservoir. Aron Walker, 17, was the owner of the vehicle and was a passenger at the time of the incident. Both occupants were able to escape injury but a dog in the car at the time did not, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Josh Whitwell.

Mark Rooker, 42, 1246 E. 160th, Hillsboro, was traveling east on 120th, one-quarter of a mile east of Chilsholm Trail at 9:10 p.m. May 31 when a deer entered the road from a south ditch. Rooker was driving a 1995 Dodge Intrepid and was unable to avoid the deer. Passengers in the vehicle were Shelley Rooker, 42, Tiffany Rooker, 15, and Brandon Rooker, 11, same address. No one was injured, reported deputy Jim Philpott. Damage to the vehicle was listed as more than $1,000.

Ethelda Lemon, 66, 212 Schmidt Lane, Lehigh, was stopped at the intersection of Ash and B streets at Hillsboro at 7:02 p.m. Thursday when she turned north on Ash and collided with a southbound 1995 Ford Taurus driven by Allison K. Hammond, 20, 313 S. Date, Hillsboro. There were no injuries and damages were listed at more than $1,000 by Hillsboro Police Officer Chad Funk.

Robert D. Gustafson, 69, Herington, was towing a 1995 Beck cargo trailer at 7:50 p.m. Friday with a 2004 Lexus when the trailer came unhooked and struck a curb on Ash Street, near Second Street, Hillsboro. Hillsboro Assistant Police Chief Jessey Hiebert reported less than $1,000 damage to the trailer.
