Accidents

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Cathy D. Martin, 50, 211 N. Coble, Marion, was westbound on U.S.-56 at 8:20 a.m. Nov. 17, and attempted to pass a vehicle also westbound on U.S.-56 but attempting to turn left on Eisenhower Drive in front of Martin. Martin's vehicle, a 1998 Ford Escort, struck a 2003 Kenworth truck driven by Steven C. Adams, 33, Kansas City, Mo. Martin and two passengers, Cara N. Martin, 10, and Larry D. Zieammerman, 4, both of 2294 220th, Marion, were transported to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, for treatment, reported Marion County Sheriff's Deputy Roland Schmidt. The passenger car was registered to Melissa Zieammerman, 2294 220th, Marion. The truck was registered to Lucky International Trading, Inc., Kansas City, Mo.

Michael L. Amos Jr., 21, Wichita, was northbound on U.S.-56/77 just south of 290th at 6:45 p.m. Nov. 18, when a deer came out of an east ditch on the roadway and the vehicle struck the deer. The vehicle was a 1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup. Neither the driver or a passenger, Kim My Hang, 20, Wichita, were injured, reported Undersheriff Randal Brazil.

Christopher Gadd, 34, 1624 Mustang, Marion, was eastbound on 170th just east of Mustang at 3:35 p.m. Nov. 21 in a 1999 Mercury Sable passenger car, when a dog riding in the vehicle jumped on the driver's lap. The driver lost control of the vehicle, hit a concrete culvert, and landed in a ditch. The car was registered to Hillsboro Ford, Hillsboro. There were no injuries, reported Deputy Michael Vineski.

James P. Smalley, 69, 1746 Upland Road, Marion, was westbound at 12:50 p.m. Nov. 22, on 290th just east of Timber in a county dump truck when he lost control and entered a north ditch and crossed back onto the road. The vehicle was a 2000 International dump truck. Smalley was transported by private vehicle to St. Luke Hospital, reported Undersheriff Brazil.

Rashelle Newmyer, 23, Manhattan, was eastbound on K-150 just east of Bluestem at 11:30 p.m. Nov. 23, when a deer came from a north ditch and was struck and killed by her vehicle, a 1998 Volkswagen Passat passenger car. Deputy Larry Starkey reported there were no injuries.

Scott D. Rosfeld, 27, Goessel, was eastbound on 110th just west of Goldenrod at 5:15 p.m. Nov. 23, when a cow entered the roadway from behind some hay bales. Rossfeld's vehicle, a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup, struck the cow and the cow ran away. There were no injuries, reported Deputy Vineski.

Arthur John Smith, 57, Phoenix, Ariz., was eastbound on U.S.-56 just east of Nighthawk at 5:25 p.m. Nov. 24, when a deer came from a north ditch. Smith, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado pickup, could not avoid hitting and killing the deer. Passengers in the vehicle were Weldon Deines, 63, Herington, and Marilyn Smith, 56, Springdale, Ark. The vehicle was registered to Deines. Deputy Starkey reported there were no injuries.
