Wizard of Oz cast includes familiar names
This weekend Newton Community Theatre for Young People will present the Frank Baum classic "Wizard of Oz." The cast is large and names of some members will be familiar to local folks.
Chris Shaw, son of Mark and Bonnie Shaw, is musical director of the play. Shaw is a 2000 graduate of Peabody-Burns High School and a 2005 graduate of Bethel College, with a degree in music education.
The role of Scarecrow will be performed by Oliver Whitney of Peabody. He has participated in local school and community productions. He is the son of Mark and Ginger Whitney.
Also in the cast are the children of Katie Pankratz, Peabody-Burns High School counselor, Camden and Whitney.
The classic stage musical will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Bethel College Fine Arts Center in North Newton.
