Florence City Council signed off Monday night on the Community Development Block Grant for water plant upgrades. A close-out report was given and forms signed as required by state and federal agencies. The final grant money was disbursed.

Mike West of SKEDD told council members and Mayor Sue Klassen that although they were a year past due on releasing the final payment, it would probably not seriously affect the city's chance for future government funds.

"This project would be reviewed," said West, "and the late payment would be noted, but you really had little choice since the work was faulty and you wanted it fixed right.

"If there were administrative issues that would be different."

West also said much government funding for community projects is drying up and competition will be more intense in the future.

Florence City Council approved ordinance 776 after a second reading. Alcohol consumption will not be permitted on public property except at the baseball field.

Anyone hosting a ball tournament must pay a $25 deposit for alcohol consumption within existing regulations. They also must clean up the ball field and dugout areas. They may apply at the city building the next business day to get a refund. Deposits will be refunded if proper cleanup has been done.
