Freedom isn t free is parade theme
Among the plans being finalized for the big July Fourth celebration is the afternoon parade. The theme for the 2006 event is "Freedom isn't free."
Once again organized by Rose Thomason and Tammy Whiteside, the parade will take place at 5 p.m. and travel from Peabody-Burns High School south on Walnut Street to Second Street, and then west on Second to city park.
"And, yes, there will be water squirted by the firemen and maybe by others in the parade," said Whiteside.
"We have reserved both sides of the street from Division Street south to Second Street for the 'dry area'," she added. "Anyone who does not want to get wet should plan on viewing the parade from there."
Entries are asked to line up at 4 p.m. at the high school parking lot.
"It would be great if people would let us know in advance if they plan to be in it," said Whiteside. "But in the five years we've been doing this, I don't think we've ever turned anyone away who just showed up at the last minute."
