800 block of Elm wins beautification contest years ago
The 800 block of Elm Street, Peabody, has been selected as the final winning block for the 2006 Neighborhood Beautification Contest.
Sponsored by Peabody Economic Development Council, the block was voted as "most improved" by the five judges who remained anonymous — even to each other. Each judge submitted three votes with the block being the winner.
Block residents, friends, and families will be rewarded for their efforts with a block party barbecue dinner Aug. 31 and will be served by members of Peabody Economic Development Council.
The meal is sponsored by Peabody Hardware, Peabody State Bank, the City of Peabody, and Peabody Main Street Association.
Every residentail block in Peabody had the potential to be a winner with the judges making the final decision each month.
The contest will be evaluated at a future economic development meeting. Contact Kristen Hooper, Peabody Main Street Director, at (620) 983-2174, e-mail at pmsa@peabodyks.com, or contact a board member with input.
Board members are Alan Yock, Shreves Avery, Mary Brown, Jeff Benbrook, Dennis Riggs, and Jeff Pohlman.
