50 years ago
Frank and Walt Ireland opened their new Standard Service Station last week on Highway 50S in the north part of Florence. They are now open for limited service as work is being completed on the service room of the station and on the café which will be opened later.
Anyone passing the Florence Implement Company last Saturday where the women of the City Federation were holding their food sale might have wondered just what they were selling for most of the time the window ledges and tables were empty. Just as soon as a woman would enter with a cake or pie there was someone waiting to buy it. One cake was sold before the box was opened. At times it was about as exciting as a sale at Macy's.
