It wasn’t the outcome he was expecting but for Marion County Sheriff Lee Becker it’s not over.
Primary election results indicated that retired Kansas Highway Patrolman Robert Craft narrowly defeated the eight-year veteran sheriff by a mere 31 votes in the Aug. 5 race.
Becker requested a re-count which revealed the same results.
“I received calls of support and encouragement to start a write-in campaign, so that’s what I’m going to do,” Becker said.
He said he was surprised with the outcome of the election because while he was on the campaign trail, he had not heard negative comments from constituents.
“If it was a more decisive primary, it would be different,” he said.
