Wilma Nelson Friesen
Wilma Nelson Friesen, 93, wife of the late Dr. Carl M. Friesen, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 9.
Born in Marion, Kan., to the late Frank and Bothilde Nelson, she was a 1936 graduate of Marion High School and a 1940 graduate of the University of Kansas, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She was a member of Walnut Hill Church, the Lexington Women’s Club, the Central Kentucky Women’s Club, the Lexington Medical Auxiliary, Lexington Country Club and the Country Club of Naples, Fla.
She was the co-owner of the Hanover Towers Gift Shop in Lexington, Ky., for many years. In retirement, she was an active volunteer at the Naples Chamber of Commerce and the Naples Public Library in Naples, Fla.
She is survived by her four children, Julie Ann Friesen (Ken) Allen, Jerold Nelson (Mary Lou) Friesen, M.D., Melinda Jean Friesen, and Elisa Lynne Friesen (Carthel) Smith; six grandchildren, Bradley Nelson Allen, Stuart Patrick (Robin) Allen, Michael Carl (Caroline) Friesen, Robert Andrew Friesen, Megan Elizabeth Smith and Holly Anne Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Laura Browning Friesen, Anna Van Meter Friesen, Michael Van Meter Friesen and Savannah Wren Allen.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Carl Monroe Friesen, M.D.; her sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Ray Vinduska; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ann and Andy Anderson, and her brother-in-law Paul H. (Greta) Friesen.
A funeral was Aug. 13 at Walnut Hill Church in Lexington, Ky., with burial afterward in the Walnut Hill Church Cemetery.
