Wheat prices continues downward trend

Staff writer

The decline in grain prices that began last fall appears to be continuing.

On March 11, wheat was $4.10 at Lincolnville, but had dropped to $3.70 on Monday.

Cooperative Grain and Supply at Marion reported similar results, with a drop of $1.25 from a year ago, at $3.66 Monday, and from $4.05 a month ago.

The price was up by seven or eight cents at 11 a.m. Tuesday, but it fluctuates daily.

Marion manager Mike Thomas said most farmers who had wheat in storage have sold it. One farmer said he received $50,000 less than he would have gotten if he had sold his wheat at harvest last year.
