What's your favorite holiday tune?
Except for a lone man whose reply to a reporter’s question was, “Bah, humbug,” most people say they have favorite Christmas songs that run through their heads in December.
On the streets of Marion one day, several people named their favorite Christmas songs.
“Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” hit the spot for Roger Schroeder.
“O Holy Night” is proved popular, being named by Barbara Melendy and Theresa Ross.
The light-hearted favorite “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” found fans in Roxanna Ross and Walter Hein.
Carol Benavidez’s is Aretha Franklin’s “14 Angels.”
“Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” has fans in Merle Flaming and Brenda Maddox.
“O Come All Ye Faithful” strikes a chord with Gabriella Schlehuber.
Athena Salamone’s favorite is a song she learned in high school: “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.”
“All I Want for Christmas is You,” hits the spot for Bobbi Barrell.
“Jingle Bells” is the right song for Dakota Bruckner, Nikki Reid, and Shirley Bowers.
“Mary, Did You Know” is the favorite of Judy Prior and Florida resident Jimi Morgan Pedigo, who is visiting relatives in Marion.
“The Little Drummer Boy” is the song that circles through Phyllis Hein’s and Doug Herry’s heads this time of year.
“White Christmas” is a favorite for Betty Johnson and Jo Ottensmeier.
“Silent Night” gets the people’s choice award for being the favorite of Janice Waner, Johsie Reid, Bobby Richmond, Hannah Branson, and Barbara Hardin.
The exuberant “Joy to the World” is Lori Heerey’s favorite.
Alan Jackson’s “Let it be Christmas” is Jayme Jirak’s.
According to a survey by Verizon, Kansas’s most beloved Christmas song is “White Christmas.”
Nationally, “All I Want For Christmas is You,” “Blue Christmas, “Feliz Navidad,” “Winter Wonderland,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Last Christmas,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “A Holly Jolly Christmas,” and “Mary, did You Know?” round out the nation’s top 10 favorite Christmas songs.
As for Bill Higgins, all we can say is, “Bah, humbug.”
