Wellness workshop offered in Marion

Marion County Department on Aging is sponsoring a “Wellness for Life” workshop May 26 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, 105 Eastmoor Dr., Marion.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will be available all morning.

From 8:45 to 9:15 a.m., Becky Yoder will talk about exercises that can be done in the water, and Anna Woods will demonstrate exercises that can be done with household items.

Registrants will have a choice of five workshops to be presented from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon. They include a fall and balance prevention program, by Robin Hodges R.P.T.; early signs of pre-diabetes, by Jeannie Rziha, RN; eating healthy, by Nancy Pihl, Marion County extension agent; stress relief by silver-haired legislator Sam Seymore of McPherson, a story teller and clown; and pain and medication, presented by Sally Goodson R.Ph.

From 10:30 to 11 a.m., Rich Hanley will demonstrate an exercise routine called Tai Chi, and Gayla Ratzlaff will lead exercising with a Nintendo Wii.

Participants can come and go as their schedules allow. They are asked to dress casual and bring friends. They can participate in exercise demonstrations or just observe.

Refreshments will be served.
