Warriors take down Eagles

Staff writer

Peabody-Burns football received their first win of the season Friday, and coach David Pickens was happy with how the evening went.

“We played very hard tonight, and some good things came our way,” Pickens said.

Warriors won 26-8 against Canton-Galva Eagles, scoring 12 points in the second quarter, and a total of 14 points in the second half.

In the second quarter of the game, Bryant Young passed to Austin Reynolds for the first touchdown of the evening. Warriors second touchdown was also made by Reynolds.

In the third quarter, Reynolds ran 15 yards, giving the Warriors their third touchdown of the evening. Bryant Young passed the ball to Jayton Scott for a complete 2-point conversion.

In the fourth quarter, Jess Philpott ran 34 yards for a fourth touchdown.

Cyler Johnson of Canton-Galva ran 45-yards to score the Eagles’ only touchdown of the evening.

“Our defense played very well,” Pickens said. “Our offense did put some points on the board, but in my opinion we left probably about 20 points on the field that we should have had.”

Philpott had an average of 7 rushing yards, and Reynolds had 4.3.

Chance Elliot had an average of 10.5 receiving yards, and Reynolds had an average of 6.5.

Interceptions and turnovers were some of what Pickens contributed the Warriors’ win.

“Overall, I feel like we did a great job,” Pickens said. “It was a well deserved, well needed victory. We will enjoy it while we can and get prepared for Goessel next week.”

Warriors will face Goessel Bluebirds at 7 p.m.  Friday at home.
