The Peabody-Burns basketball team lost twice in the third week of January. The Warriors lost Jan. 14 at home against Rural Vista 65-42, then again to Wakefield, 40-36 on Friday. The team plays in a tournament this week at Centre.
Rural Vista
The Warriors were down by six early, but came back to claim the lead 10-8. Rural Vista ended the quarter up by two, 12-10. Braxton Kyle and Xavier Jabary each scored four. Kevin Baatrup had two.
Things went south for the Warriors in the second quarter. Jabary paced the team with five, Baatrup drained a 3-pointer, and Nick Preheim made two free throws. Rural Vista caught fire, dumping in 21. Peabody-Burns trailed 33-19 at the half.
Twelve in the third for PBHS just did not match up to 20 for Rural Vista. Kyle led with five. Baatrup added a trey, and Jabary and Garret Schroeder each made a two-point basket. The Warriors were down 53-31 at the end of the period.
Schroeder added four in the final period. Jabary scored four, Baatrup scored two, and Enrique Palazon made a free throw. Rural vista added 12 in the fourth. Peabody-Burns lost 65-42.

Wakefield
A close first quarter ended with Wakefield ahead, 9-8. Kyle had 6 points in the period. Gibson added 2.
Wakefield led 18-15 after another close quarter gave Wakefield the edge. Peabody-Burns kept the game manageable going into halftime. Schroeder had three, and Preheim and Kyle each added a 2-point basket.
A close third quarter made ended 29-23 going into the fourth. Baatrup, Jabary, Schroeder and Preheim had two points each.
Peabody-Burns scored 13 fourth-quarter points, but Wakefield gained 11 and took the victory over the Warriors 40-36.
Kyle paced the team with 8 points, including two treys. Vince Newman got on the board with a basket. Preheim also added a basket and Baatrup got one from the line.
