Warriors stop the Chargers

Peabody-Burns High School boy’s basketball team earned another win Tuesday with the defeat of the Burrton Chargers, 49-35.

The team is 4-1 and will have one more contest against Wichita Home School before the holiday vacation.

The Warrior squad spread out the scoring in the first quarter. Jacob Simmonds and Aaron Topham each had four points to lead the PBHS offense. Sean Jones, Brian O’Neal, and Martin Hofkamp each had a basket. PBHS defense held Burrton to nine and the Warriors led, 14-9, at the end of the quarter.

Burrton outscored PBHS in the second quarter, 9-8, but the Warriors held onto the lead, 22-18, at the half. Hofkamp had four in the period. Jones and Simmonds had two each.

PBHS offense exploded in the third with the addition of 18 points. Simmonds paced the scoring with eight. Topham had four and Jones, O’Neal, and Hofkamp each added two. Warrior defense assaulted the Chargers and held the opponent to six.

PBHS led 40-24 at the end of the period.

Burrton scored 11 points in the fourth quarter and PBHS added nine. Jones had four free throws in the period and O’Neal had one. Simmonds had a basket. The Warriors took the win, 49-35.

Simmonds led the team with 16 points. Jones had 10 and Hofkamp and Topham had 8 each. O’Neal finished the contest with 5.

Simmonds had 17 rebounds in the competition and O’Neal and Topham each had 10. Hofkamp had 8. Simmonds had 4 steals and 6 assists and Hofkamp had 3 blocks and 2 steals.
