Warriors shoot down Eagles, win 56-18

Staff writer

Peabody-Burns football is off to a good start for the year with two wins under its belt. The Warriors bested the Canton-Galva Eagles Friday 56-18 at home.

With the Warriors leading 8-0, the Eagles flew in to score a touchdown in the second quarter to make it 8-6. Peabody-Burns struck back hard, with help from Austin Reynolds, who scored two touchdowns.

The Warriors would score four times before half to put the game out of reach at 28-6.

Clayton Philpott had started the scoring with a touchdown with over six minutes left in the half. Reynolds completed the two-point conversion.

In the second half, Canton-Galva scored two more touchdowns, but it was a strip and score by Andrew Wedel that was the highlight of the second half.

Wedel stripped the ball from the Eagles and took it 35 yards into the end zone for a touchdown for the Warriors.

“That strip score was the icing on the cake,” head coach David Pickens said. “It was a unique highlight of the second half.”

The Warriors ended up with a 56-18 win against the Eagles.

“We had a good game out of our tailback, Philpott,” Pickens said. “We ended up taking control of it.”
