Warriors ride 8-game winning streak

Staff writer

Marion baseball is on a hot streak right now with eight wins in a row, two of which came Friday against Ell-Saline, 18-1 and 21-1.

Jack Lanning leads the team with a .600 batting average and a .673 on base percentage. He has stolen 16 bases this season, with 27 hits and 29 runs scored.

Lander Smith and Cole Smith are tied with 21 runs each.

Cooper Bailey has a 2.10 earned run average, and Hayden Mendoza has a 2.62 ERA.

Gavin Wasmuth leads the team with 20 runs batted in.

“Our pitchers have been doing a great job of being efficient,” Marion boys coach Roger Schroeder said. “Offensively we’ve been scoring a lot of runs the past couple weeks but we still have some areas to improve there, and guys are doing a good job of working in practice to be more consistent.”

Marion baseball will host Inman (10-2) this Friday.

Marion softball didn’t have the same luck that the boys had against Ell-Saline, losing 11-3 and 12-0, Friday. Marion softball also will play Inman this Friday.

Hillsboro

Hillsboro baseball and softball were swept in their doubleheaders Friday at home against Hoisington. Baseball lost 20-2 and 19-3, while softball lost 16-3 and 9-3.

Hillsboro baseball traveled to Canton-Galva without the softball team Tuesday and was unable to pick up their first wins for the season. Hillsboro lost 5-1, and 4-2.
